Testimonials - APC Review (MYOB Vs QuickBooks)
MYOB Accounting Plus v12
MYOB may be the market leader, but it's far behind QuickBooks in terms
of speed and functionality.
A new business accounts package means careful planning, yet this version
of MYOB requires even more than the usual. For starters, its chart of
accounts is arranged solely in numerical order. And when you do finally
get ready to input information, codes are limited to five characters
and description fields aren't long enough.
There are other problems too. For example, it's always easy to inadvertently
double expense and GST claims by not marrying payments with unpaid entries.
The same problem exists when banking money without matching it to a sale
you're owed. The warning with MYOB v12's dialog box appears when it isn't
needed, and therefore it's easy to ignore.
The cheque register method of fast data entry doesn't work as quickly
as it could with split allocations or GST treatment. With two of the
data entry screens, the tab order simply doesn't work. For more than
two simultaneous users or a business with lots of small transactions, MYOB
is far too slow.
QuickBooks Plus 2002
With complex functions placing it ahead of MYOB, QuickBooks Plus is nevertheless
easy to set up.
A single wizard covers all areas of setting up QuickBooks Plus. Step-by-step
explanations mean that you can accomplish in-house something that you
would normally pay a consultant to do.
The chart of accounts isn't restricted to numerical order. This -- and
the fact that you can merge the contents of accounts -- means you can
produce a chart of accounts that exactly matches your accountant's software,
before they even get your files.
QuickBooks' data entry is the fastest we've seen in any accounting package
-- often recording a transaction is just a matter of changing one amount.
There's little or no screen-to-screen jumping to enter data and it's
virtually impossible to accidentally double up expenses or income transactions.
On identical hardware, building a report typically takes half the time
that it does in MYOB.
Reports can be reformatted on-screen and interrogated until you get to
the individual transactions that went into making them. Mistakes can
be searched for, found and fixed very quickly. QuickBooks Plus
is clearly a step ahead.
