Preparing for a Marathon

Undertaking a marathon for a person that does not normally run a marathon can be a daunting task. To ensure you can take on a marathon, besides being sufficiently fit, there are other measures that you should take prior to the event.

The first key preparation requirement is to know how to stay positive before and during the race. Make sure that when it comes to race day. Many will get pessimistic before a race because they panic that they did not put in enough training or preparation work but by race day, this is all consequential. Staying positive and feeling like you have done enough is important. If you have any negative thoughts, bring them the forefront of your mind and learn to deal with them rather than let them simmer in the back of your mind.

Secondly, set time goals for your race. Have a look at a map of the track and set some target times for various distances along the track so on the day you can check that you are achieving your goals. You can set your goals against significant land marks so that it can trigger you to check your progress. Understanding how you are tracking against your target goals will allow you to know if you should be pushing yourself harder or slowing to a more sustainable pace.

Finally, make sure you enjoy the race. With all the preparation that you have put into the race, make sure you enjoy it.
